BREAKTHROUGHS/
CONSEQUENCES
Breakthoughs
In order for our GlucoMonitor to be successful, one thing we will need is a very advanced band that would go around your upper arm. The band would have to be thin enough to be unnoticed yet thick enough to hold several microneedle insulin patches and just the right size to comfortably fit around your desired area. The band would also need a strong protection case that can open and close to prevent the microneedles from accidentally injecting insulin when not necessary. We also have to create a watch or accessory that can track your blood sugar levels using high frequency waves, and tell you when and how much insulin you need to inject into your body.
Consequences
As the GlucoBand automatically administers insulin by the press of a button, possible accidents can activate automatic administration of insulin patches. This can cause potential insulin overdose and cause the body to react differently. Also, the GlucoWatch can malfunction and will increase the risk of insulin overdosage. The GlucoBand can be bulky as it will be encapsulating several insulin patches. In order to keep the microneedles safe from accidents, there will need to be a hard casing separating skin and patch. This can cause discomfort for the diabetic.
